Magento 2 SEO Extensions Compared: MageWorx, Amasty, Mirasvit, Mageplaza, Magefan and Native Settings
Five Magento 2 SEO extensions compared with native Adobe Commerce settings: meta templates, canonicals, filter URLs, JSON-LD, hreflang, prices, October 2026.
TL;DR. A Magento 2 SEO extension adds rule-based control over the HTML Magento prints: meta templates for the whole catalog, canonical and robots rules for filter and paginated pages, complete Product JSON-LD, redirect managers, split sitemaps and hreflang. Native Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce already cover per-item meta fields, product and category canonicals, URL rewrites, a robots.txt editor and an XML sitemap. As of October 29, 2026, the five common suites run from a free Amasty tier to $469, and every one of them edits HTML only: none makes a slow page fast or puts product data into a storefront that renders in the browser.
A Magento SEO extension sells one thing: control over the HTML Magento prints on every product, category and filter page, set by rule for the whole catalog. Which Magento 2 SEO extension you need, if any, depends on what native Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce already do for your store. We fetched each vendor's product page on October 29, 2026, and compared what the five common suites add on top of the admin settings, what each costs, and where each one stops. The settings themselves, with the admin paths and the values to set, are in Magento SEO.
What native Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce settings already cover
Out of the box, the admin gives you a meta title, keywords and description field on every product, category and CMS page, per store view; canonical tags for products and categories, both off by default; a URL rewrite table with an automatic 301 when a URL key changes; a Default Robots setting with a robots.txt editor; and an XML sitemap generated on cron. Adobe's sitemap documentation sets the defaults at 50,000 URLs per file and 10,485,760 bytes, with a batch generation method for large catalogs. Adobe's meta data page says that "by default, structured data markup that is based on the schema.org standard is added to your store's product template" and recommends enabling canonical meta tags for both categories and products.
Four jobs sit outside those settings. Meta templates: the admin's auto-generation masks fill meta fields for new products only, so existing products keep whatever was typed or imported. Robots and canonical rules per URL pattern: the default robots value applies to the whole store view, and the canonical settings know nothing about a filtered or paginated category. Structured data: the default markup is partial, and Luma's microdata leaves out availability and brand, as the pillar shows. Hreflang: Magento prints no hreflang tags for store views.
Layered navigation is the fifth job, and the one that costs the most crawl budget. Each filter and each toolbar option adds a query parameter, so one category exposes thousands of URLs. The robots.txt rules that block the toolbar parameters, and the admin defaults that block more than you meant, are in faceted navigation SEO; which filters deserve a page of their own, and how to check the result in Search Console, is in Magento layered navigation SEO. Every suite below sets templates, canonicals or robots tags on filter pages. Only some of them give a filter its own readable URL.
Adobe's SEO overview marks the admin's metadata, sitemap and URL rewrite tools as "PaaS only", so Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service, with its Edge Delivery Services storefront, is outside this comparison. Everything below is for Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce 2.4.
MageWorx SEO Suite Ultimate
MageWorx SEO Suite Ultimate is the widest of the five suites on paper, and the one that comes closest to covering every job in one install. Per its product page, version 2.46.1, it adds:
- Meta templates. SEO templates for product and category meta values, with CMS-related reports.
- Canonical rules. Custom canonicals, cross-domain canonicals, rel next and prev, and pager canonicals for paginated categories.
- Layered navigation controls. SEO templates for filter pages, canonical control and
NOINDEX, FOLLOWsettings for filter pages. Robots meta is configurable per product, category, CMS page and layered navigation page. - Rich snippets. Product and category snippets, Open Graph and Twitter Cards, Seller and Website markup, speakable markup, and product FAQs with FAQ schema. The page never names JSON-LD as the output format.
- Redirects. Automatic 301 or 302 redirects for deleted products, and custom redirects with CSV import and export.
- Sitemaps. An XML sitemap split by page type, with splitting for large catalogs, and an HTML sitemap.
- Hreflang. Alternate language tags for localized store views.
- Cross-linking and breadcrumbs. Automatic internal links managed from one grid, and a breadcrumb path setting of shortest, longest or default.
- AI. OpenAI and Gemini integrations and an llms.txt generator.
Cost, as of October 29, 2026. The page prints $299 for Magento Open Source, and the edition selector adds $299 for Commerce and $299 for Commerce on Cloud. The price "Includes lifetime access to the source code, 1-year of free updates & support", with later years at "40% off the list price". Installation, priority support and an SEO configuration service are priced separately on the page.
Limits. Compatibility is printed as "CE: 2.4.x; EE: 2.4.x", so a 2.3 store is out. Readable static filter URLs are a separate product: MageWorx's Layered Navigation extension, whose page says it is "fully compatible with SEO Suite Ultimate" and printed no usable price when we checked (the page showed $0). The suite marks itself "Hyva-ready", so Hyvä stores can run it; what a Hyvä or PWA Studio migration changes about rendering is in headless Magento SEO.
Amasty SEO Toolkit
Amasty SEO Toolkit is the only suite of the five with a free tier, and the only one that leaves filter URLs and hreflang to other Amasty products. Its product page prints three tiers:
- SEO Toolkit, $0. The SEO toolbar, automatic redirects, a custom URL for the default search results page, default robots tags for categories and products, and pagination settings. The page adds that the free plan "includes limited support, focusing only on assistance with configuration questions and fixing approved local bugs".
- SEO Toolkit Pro, $399. Meta tag templates, Google rich snippets, cross-linking, unique product URLs, URL rewrite regeneration for products and categories, HTML and XML sitemaps, Open Graph tags, and an AI content generator with an auto-fix for metadata errors the toolbar flags.
- SEO Toolkit Premium, $469. Everything in Pro, with the Google Indexing API, Facebook Pixel, bulk alt tag generation, WebP conversion and bulk AI generation.
The rich snippet section lists price and stock status, rating and review count, breadcrumbs, company name and logo, a homepage search box and social profiles. The redirect manager covers deleted pages and changed URLs, with import and export in a grid. The "SEO-friendly URLs" block picks a category path for product URLs, redirects to the canonical URL and caps URL length.
Cost, as of October 29, 2026. $0, $399 or $469, as printed on the product page. The "Updates and support prolongation" line carried no figure in the text we fetched, so renewal pricing is not stated there.
Limits. Hreflang is absent from the SEO Toolkit feature list. Amasty's own hreflang guide puts the setting in its XML Google Sitemap extension and implements it in the sitemap. Filter URLs are in Improved Layered Navigation, a separate product printed at $419 on October 29, 2026, with a smaller Layered Navigation tier at $109, struck through from $159, and a Premium tier at $579. That extension gives a filter result a readable URL (the page's own example turns fitness-equipment.html?activity=8 into fitness-equipment/yoga.html), custom meta data, "Flexible canonical URL modes", robots tag control for custom pages and sitemap entries. So the full Amasty stack for a multi-language store with filter landing pages is three purchases. Compatibility on both pages is printed as "2.4.9; 2.4.8-p5; 2.4.7-p10; 2.4.6-p15; 2.4.5-p15", with "Fully compatible with Hyvä Theme" on the toolkit and a note on the navigation page that AJAX "is currently not supported with the Hyvä Theme CSP compatibility package".
Whichever suite you pick, test its output in the HTML a crawler receives. A site audit crawls the store and groups what the extension changed: duplicate titles a template did not reach, canonicals that point at the wrong URL, filter pages that carry both a noindex tag and a robots.txt block, and product pages where two modules each print their own Product markup. One crawl after install and one after every extension update catches what the admin screens hide.
Mirasvit Advanced SEO Suite
Mirasvit Advanced SEO Suite is the cheapest first year of the paid suites and the only one that names its JSON-LD types one by one. Per its product page:
- Meta templates. Templates for meta titles, descriptions, keywords and H1s, per-URL overrides, and a manual rewrite manager.
- Canonical rules. Canonical tags for configurable, grouped and bundled products, and cross-domain canonicals.
- Layered navigation controls. Layered navigation URLs made "SEO-friendly and human-readable", and templates that generate meta tags for layered navigation results.
- JSON-LD. Organization, WebPage, OfferCatalog, AggregateRating, Review, Offer, AggregateOffer, BreadcrumbList and Product, with WebPage, Article or BlogPosting for CMS pages, and Open Graph tags.
- Redirects. 301, 302 and 307 redirects.
- Sitemaps. A Google XML sitemap, optionally split per content type with an index file, and a frontend HTML sitemap.
- Hreflang. Tags for products, categories, CMS and blog pages, with x-default.
- Also. Alternate, next and prev tags, automatic cross-linking, an SEO toolbar, a scheduled SEO audit and an AI meta fixer that lists GPT, Claude and Gemini.
Cost, as of October 29, 2026. The page prints "Pay today $179 for the first year" and "Then $108 for updates and support services per year", with the edition selector adding $199 for Commerce and $269 for Commerce on Cloud. It also prints lifetime access to the source code, free installation and a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Limits. The page names no robots meta rule per URL pattern; robots directives appear only in what the audit and toolbar check. Readable filter URLs are included, which separates Mirasvit from Amasty and MageWorx on price for a store that wants filter landing pages without a second extension. Compatibility is printed as "2.3.* - 2.4.9" for Community and Enterprise, Mage-OS included, and "the extension is ready for the Hyvä Theme".
Mageplaza SEO Extension
Mageplaza's Magento 2 SEO Extension splits the jobs across three editions, so the tier you buy decides which of them you get. Per its product page, version 4.4.9:
- Standard, $99 first year. Canonical tags, structured data, a SERP snippet preview, breadcrumbs, a sitelinks search box, business information and site verifications.
- Professional, $229 first year. Everything in Standard, with SEO robots meta tags, metadata template rules, alt tags, SEO layered navigation, SEO redirect, and two lines printed as "Include SEO-Friendly URL ($79)" and "Include HTML & XML Sitemaps ($99)".
- Ultimate, $349 first year. Everything in Professional, with cross links, an SEO checklist, an SEO report, page analysis, hreflang tags, and two more lines printed as "Include Lazy Loading ($79)" and "Include Image Optimizer ($99)".
The release notes on the page add Shipping Detail and Merchant Return Policy to the rich snippet in version 4.4.7, dated April 14, 2026.
Cost, as of October 29, 2026. $99, $229 or $349 for the first year, each with "support & updates for 1 year" and a 60-day money-back guarantee. The page offers a 1, 2 or 3 year subscription at "up to -20%" and free installation. It does not say whether the bracketed figures on the "Include" lines are charged on top of the tier price or are the standalone prices of modules the tier bundles, so ask Mageplaza before you budget.
Limits. Metadata templates, robots meta tags, layered navigation SEO and sitemaps all start at Professional, so the $99 edition covers canonicals and structured data only. Hreflang and cross links are Ultimate only. Readable filter URLs are a separate product, listed on the same page as Layered Navigation at $149. Compatibility is printed as "2.4.4 - 2.4.9", and the page's FAQ answers "Is the extension compatible with Hyva theme?" with yes.
Magefan SEO Suite
Magefan's Magento 2 SEO Extension is a bundle of seven Magefan modules sold in three tiers, with the catalog-wide features at the top. Per its product page, version 2.6.6:
- Basic, $99. Canonical tags for the homepage, product, category, CMS, blog, customer account and contact pages; SEO pagination and layered navigation, with
NOINDEX, FOLLOWset through SEO rules; SEO-friendly permalinks; a meta keywords and llms.txt field; a Google SEO preview; automatic redirects for disabled or deleted pages; and filter options added to titles and meta data. - Plus, $229. Rich snippets as JSON-LD for Product, Organisation, Category, FAQ, HowTo, Event, breadcrumbs and the search box; XML and HTML sitemap settings; and social media tags.
- Extra, $299. Meta tag templates for bulk titles, descriptions, keywords and H1s; SEO rules for custom canonical, meta data and meta robots across multiple or custom pages; automatic cross-linking; redirect rules for 301, 302 and 307; hreflang tags; and social media tags, which the page lists under both Plus and Extra.
Cost, as of October 29, 2026. $99, $229 or $299, printed as a one-time payment with "free module updates for 365 days" and "free support for 365 days", lifetime access to the source code, a 60-day money-back guarantee, and an optional renewal at 50% off the extension price to keep receiving newer versions.
Limits. Meta templates, custom canonical rules, meta robots rules, redirect rules and hreflang all sit in Extra, so the two cheaper tiers cover per-page settings and markup only. The page lists no feature that rewrites a filter result to a static URL; "SEO pagination and layered navigation" and "add filter options" in titles describe tags and titles on the parameter URLs Magento already has. Compatibility is printed as "Magento 2.3.0 - 2.4.9 (CE, EE, ECE, B2B)", with Mage-OS, Adobe Commerce Cloud and Breeze Theme marked compatible, and the FAQ says the plugin "includes dedicated Hyvä compatibility" with a Hyvä demo.
When native Magento is enough
A store with one language, one store view, a few hundred products and no filter pages it wants to rank can run on the admin settings and a Product JSON-LD block in the theme. The extension pays for itself when one of four things is true: the catalog is too big to edit meta fields by hand, the store has more than one language, a filter page needs to rank on its own URL, or the theme's markup cannot be fixed by your own developers. The table below sorts by store situation; the feature-by-feature version of this table is in Magento SEO.
| Your store | Native settings | What you need an extension for |
|---|---|---|
| One store view, under a few hundred products, filters canonicalized to the category | Enough, with a Product JSON-LD block in the theme | Nothing |
| One store view, thousands of products with imported or empty meta fields | Masks cover new products only | Meta templates applied to existing products |
| Filter pages you want to rank, such as a brand or "red dresses" | Query-parameter URLs, one canonical to the category | Static filter URLs with their own title, copy and sitemap entry |
| Filter pages you want crawled less, already indexed | A robots.txt block, which Google cannot read a noindex through | Per-pattern NOINDEX, FOLLOW rules, then the robots.txt rules once the URLs drop out |
| Two or more languages or countries | No hreflang output | Hreflang per store view, with x-default |
| Migrations with thousands of old URLs | One rewrite at a time, automatic 301 on URL key change | Bulk redirect import, 404 monitoring |
| A theme whose Product markup is partial and you cannot change it | Partial microdata | Complete Product, Offer, AggregateRating and BreadcrumbList JSON-LD |
| A PWA Studio, Edge Delivery or other headless storefront | HTML shell for crawlers | Nothing in this list; the fix is rendering |
Two rules from the pillar still apply with any extension installed. Never set a noindex tag on a URL that robots.txt already blocks, because Google cannot read the tag on a page it cannot fetch. And a suite that adds Product JSON-LD next to Luma's microdata leaves Google two products per page, so remove the microdata.
An extension edits what Magento prints. On a PWA Studio or Edge Delivery storefront, product data arrives after JavaScript runs, so none of these suites changes what GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot receive, and those crawlers do not run JavaScript. Encited sits in front of that storefront as a pre-render layer that serves crawlers a rendered snapshot of each page, refreshed on a schedule you set per URL group, and its crawl log lists each bot visit with the status it got back. Which storefronts have the problem, and how Hyvä differs from PWA Studio here, is in headless Magento SEO.

For hreflang on a tight budget, Mirasvit's $179 includes it and Mageplaza needs the $349 tier. For filter landing pages, Mirasvit includes the URL rewrite, and the other four send you to a second product or print nothing. For a free start, Amasty's $0 tier gives you default robots tags, pagination settings and automatic redirects, which is enough to stop the worst index bloat on a small store. All five claim Hyvä compatibility, and all five have a changelog, so read the latest entries before you buy. Crawlers, rank trackers and the other tools that work from outside the store are in ecommerce SEO tools.
FAQ
What is the best SEO extension for Magento 2? The one that covers the jobs native Magento leaves open for your store. Mirasvit Advanced SEO Suite includes meta templates, JSON-LD, readable filter URLs and hreflang at $179 for the first year as of October 29, 2026. MageWorx SEO Suite Ultimate covers the same list except static filter URLs at $299. Amasty, Mageplaza and Magefan put the catalog-wide features in their higher tiers or in separate products.
Does Magento 2 need an SEO extension? A single-language store with a small catalog and no filter pages to rank does not. Turn on product and category canonicals, block the toolbar parameters and internal search in robots.txt, and add a Product JSON-LD block to the theme. A multi-language store needs an extension or theme code for hreflang, and a large catalog usually wants meta templates that reach existing products.
Is there a free Magento 2 SEO extension? Amasty's SEO Toolkit prints a $0 tier on its product page as of October 29, 2026, with the SEO toolbar, automatic redirects, default robots tags for categories and products, pagination settings and a custom search results URL. Meta templates, rich snippets and sitemaps start at the $399 Pro tier. The page says the free plan's support covers configuration questions and approved bugs only.
Which Magento SEO extension handles layered navigation? All five set tags or templates on filter pages. Mirasvit includes human-readable filter URLs in the suite. MageWorx, Amasty and Mageplaza sell static filter URLs as a separate layered navigation extension, and Magefan's page lists no static filter URL feature. The rules for which filters to index, canonicalize or block are in Magento layered navigation SEO.
Do these extensions work with Hyvä? Each vendor's page claims Hyvä compatibility: MageWorx "Hyva-ready", Amasty "Fully compatible with Hyvä Theme", Mirasvit "ready for the Hyvä Theme", Mageplaza "Compatible with Hyva theme" and Magefan "dedicated Hyvä compatibility". Amasty notes that AJAX in its layered navigation is not supported with the Hyvä CSP compatibility package. Check each changelog for the Hyvä version you run.
Does an SEO extension fix Core Web Vitals or rendering? No. An extension changes the HTML Magento outputs. Speed comes from Varnish or Fastly, production mode, fewer modules and a lighter theme. A headless storefront that builds pages in the browser needs server-side rendering or a pre-render layer before any of these suites can show crawlers the product data.
