Ignored paths
Ignored paths tell Encited to leave some pages alone. When a crawler asks for a page that matches an ignored path, Encited does not render or cache it. The request goes to your site unchanged, and the crawler gets whatever your site returns.
Use it for pages that should not be pre-rendered:
- Logged-in areas, such as
/dashboard/**or/account/**. - Pages another system already renders, such as a separate blog or help center on the same domain.
- Endpoints that return data instead of a page, such as a webhook or a form handler.
Ignored paths apply when your domain is connected through DNS. If you use a middleware integration, your middleware decides which requests it sends to Encited, so exclude the paths there instead.
Add ignored paths#
- In your site, open Site settings.
- Under Cache & routing, open Ignored paths.
- Enter one pattern per line. Commas also work.
- Click Save changes.
/dashboard/**
/account/**
/newsroom/*
/api/webhooks/stripe
The change applies to the next request. Snapshots that already exist for those paths are not served while the path is ignored.
Pattern rules#
Patterns match the path only. The domain, query string, and # part are not part of the match.
| Pattern | Matches | Does not match |
|---|---|---|
/pricing |
/pricing |
/pricing/team |
/blog/* |
/blog/my-post |
/blog, /blog/2026/my-post |
/blog/** |
/blog, /blog/my-post, /blog/2026/my-post |
/blog-archive |
/** |
every page |
*matches exactly one path segment.**matches the rest of the path, including nothing. It must be the last segment.- A wildcard must be the whole segment.
/blog/*is valid,/blog-*is not. - Every pattern starts with
/. Do not enter a full URL. - Matching is case sensitive.
/Blog/**does not match/blog/post. - A trailing slash makes no difference.
/pricingand/pricing/are the same path.
The settings page shows an error next to any pattern that breaks these rules, and it does not save until you fix it.
Paths that look like attacks#
Encited blocks crawler requests to paths that look like vulnerability scans, such as .php files or /wp-admin. If your site has a real page on a path like that, add it to ignored paths. Encited then sends the request to your site instead of blocking it.
Check that it works#
In Crawl Analytics, requests to an ignored path show the outcome Passed through. See Read your crawl log.
