Accept an invite and switch teams

Someone put you on their account, and their sites should be there when you sign in. Accepting takes one click from the invite email. Both accounts stay in reach after that: the team you joined, and your own.

Time: 1 minute. You need: the invite email, opened at the address it was sent to.

Where to find it#

The link in the invite email. The subject reads "Name invited you to join Team". After that, the switcher at the top left of the dashboard, in the sidebar header above the menu.

How it works#

Accepting the invite#

Open the link. The page names the team, who invited you, and the role you get. Sign in, then press Join team. You land on the dashboard with that team already active.

Sign in with the address the invite went to. Google and GitHub sign-in carry whatever address sits on that account, and it isn't always the invited one. When the two differ, the page says which address the invite was for and offers Sign out. Sign back in with that address, and Join team works.

A link lasts 7 days and works once.

Switching teams#

The sidebar header at the top left shows the current team's name and its site count. Click it and pick another one. The page reloads on the account you picked, and everything from there (sites, crawl data, reports, settings, billing) belongs to it.

The list holds your personal account and every team you've joined, so getting back to your own sites is the same two clicks.

No switcher means one account The name sits there with nothing to click. If you expected a team next to it, the invite isn't accepted yet. Open the invite link one more time, or ask an admin to send a new one to the address you sign in with.

The plan screen after switching#

Your personal account carries its own plan, and usually there isn't one. Switch to it and the dashboard asks you to pick a plan. The team switcher sits at the top of that screen: switch back to the team and you're through. Membership needs no subscription of your own.

Admins have Copy link next to each pending invite in Settings → Team. It gives them a working link to send you directly, which is the way around a mail filter that ate the first one.

That link replaces the previous one, so the link in the original email stops working. Use the newest one you were sent.

Copy link doesn't revive an expired invite. Past 7 days, an admin revokes it and invites you again.

Fixes by symptom#

Symptom What to check
No switcher at the top left You're in one account. The invite isn't accepted: open the link again
"This invite was sent to ..." You're signed in with another address. Sign out, then sign in with the invited one
"Invite expired" Links last 7 days. Ask an admin to invite you again
"Invite already used" It was accepted once. If that wasn't you, ask for a fresh one
"Invite not found" The URL is cut short. Copy the whole link from the email, or ask for a new one
The team is in the switcher but sites are missing Your access covers specific sites only. Ask an admin which ones you have
Dashboard asks you to pick a plan You're on your personal account. Switch back to the team
Invite email never arrived Check spam, then ask an admin for the link from Settings → Team

FAQ#

Do I need my own subscription? No. The team's plan covers what you do inside the team.

Can I be in more than one team? Yes. Each one appears in the switcher, next to your personal account.

Can I accept on a different email? No. The address has to match the invite. Ask an admin to send it to the address you sign in with.

What happens to my own sites when I join? They stay in your personal account. Switch to it to reach them.

How do I leave a team? Settings → Team, then Leave team. An Owner transfers ownership first. See Invite your team and set roles.
