Encited

Site not loading: Error 508 origin loop

What you see#

Your site shows a page with the tag Error · 508 and the title Origin points back to Encited. The browser gets HTTP status 508 Loop Detected.

Why this happens#

Encited gets each request for your domain, then loads the content from your Project URL. The Project URL is the address that hosts your site, for example yoursite.lovable.app.

If the Project URL points back to Encited, Encited sends the request to itself. The request goes around in a loop and the site cannot load. Encited stops the loop and shows the 508 page.

There are two common causes:

  1. The Project URL is the domain itself. For example, the domain is example.com and the Project URL is example.com or www.example.com.
  2. The Project URL is a different domain that also uses Encited. For example, example.com has the Project URL shop.example.com, and shop.example.com has A records that point to Encited. Two domains that use each other as Project URL cause the same loop.

The fix: set the correct Project URL#

  1. Open your Encited dashboard.
  2. Select the site.
  3. Open Site settings in the sidebar.
  4. In Project URL, type the address your hosting platform gave you. Do not type your custom domain.
    • Lovable: yoursite.lovable.app
    • Other builders and hosts: the default address of the published site, for example yoursite.netlify.app or yoursite.vercel.app.
  5. Save.

How to tell it worked: open your domain in a private window. The site loads, and the 508 page does not show.

Not sure which address to use? Open the Project URL in a browser by itself. It must show your site directly, and its DNS must not point to the Encited proxy addresses.

Still seeing the error?#

  • Wait a few minutes. The new setting can take a short time to reach every edge location.
  • Make sure the Project URL does not redirect to your custom domain. If your host sets your custom domain as the primary domain, see Too many redirects.
  • If the error stays, contact support and give the domain name.
